Homemade jacket by my Mother
she had some baby book I started when I was a kid that I never completed
the question was: what is going to change in your life next year?
I (at the age of 6) responded: Myfriends. I don’t like other kids.
I’ve been a player hater since I was a child.
Well, this is me at the tulip festival as a child,
Basically everything I’m wearing in this was made by my mother
I have what some would call a feminist (although she hates the term) mother. Or some just call her a bitch.
As a child she would edit our books:
The last pig in the Three Little Pigs was always a female. (She was the one who made the house out of bricks)
Snow White was awoken by a female doctor because “A woman doesn’t need to depend on a man”
She never read my sister or I Sleeping Beauty, Beauty & the Beast or The Little Mermaid. She felt they were too far fetched
But her alltime favourite book was Robert Munsch. It’s about a dragon who kidnaps a Prince and burns kingdom along with the Princess’ clothing. So she is forced to rescue her fiancee and wear a paper bag. She eventually saved the Prince who is ungrateful and tells her she pretty much looks like crap and should wear “Princess Clothes” The Princess realizes she was better off without Ronald (the Prince) and goes on her own way.
The last line of the book was:
“Ronald, you’re a Bum!”
my Mother would make this a bit shall we say edgier everytime she read it..
“Ronald, you’re a bum!” became “Ronald you’re a bum and I don’t need you” which eventually became “Ronald you’re an asshole I never needed you”
Some say I’ve had a feminist upbringing. I’d like to think it made me respect women much more than other teenage boys I have seen.
Also: My mother taught us this: instead of “Girls are sugar, spice and everything nice” My sister (and even I heard)
“Girls are pretty, smart and tough”
I truly do love my Mother.
